Introduction

The magnificent manor house in the Berlin district of Neukölln was built at the beginning of the 18th century on the site of a medieval half-timbered house and was owned as a mansion by high-ranking Prussian court officials and state ministers.

Britz Castle, rightly referred to as the "pearl of the district", took its present form around 1880, when the then owner Wilhelm August Julius Wrede had the facade renovated in the neo-Renaissance style and added a tower. The park behind the castle was reconstructed in the style of the turn of the century. Britz Castle experienced its heyday under Ewald Friedrich Graf von Hertzberg (1725-1795), who established it as a model of economic agriculture.

Today, the castle houses museum rooms in which the "representative home decor of the Gründerzeit" is shown in a permanent exhibition. Special exhibitions in close cooperation with international museums, as well as concerts and readings with renowned artists offer visitors a varied programme. In the summer months, the concert series takes place on the open-air stage on the estate. A castle restaurant with terrace offers an idyllic ambience for lingering. On the estate the restaurant Buchholz-Gutshof Britz invites you with rural cuisine.
